Our Apprenticeship Opportunities are paid work programs designed for the person who already has enough experience working on farms to know that farming is a professional interest to them.  Apprenticeships are full season long work agreements where the participant will be paid a stipend to be determined.  In some circumstances, room and board will factor into the financial equation as well.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2017 season.

Job Announcement: Organic Farmer Apprenticeship (April-November 2017)

Overview   Food|Waves’ partner farm, Converging Creeks Farm (Colton), has developed a reputation for high quality organic produce and excellent customer service while providing unique training and volunteer opportunities for community members.  Recognizing the need to provide financial and technical support to the next generation of organic farmers, we have created a seasonal apprenticeship position.  The successful applicant(s) will be trained in all aspects of how to operate a small production farm.

Responsibilities  Our apprentice(s) will:

- Work 3 - 5 days/week (April-November) with a lead farmer that will supervise all aspects of sustainable agriculture (i.e. seed propagation, soil preparation, transplanting, harvesting, marketing etc.).

- Participate in discussion-based and hands-on educational sessions.

- Support a small non-profit by increasing field size, greenhouse production, harvest size, and sales of farm output.

- Develop and nurture sales relationships with customers and partner organizations.

- Promote the educational component of the farm by working with community members (i.e. host regular volunteers, educate farm visitors, etc.).

- Work with goats, turkeys, pigs, and chickens.

Required  A successful applicant will have the following:

- Desire to own and/or manage a small acreage, organic farm in the near future.

- Knowledge of organic farming practices and methods (minimum one full growing season).

- Interest in the local, organic food movement and/or food-related issues.

- Ability to work well with a team, excellent communication and organizational skills, resourceful, self-motivated, and hard-working.

- Access to transportation (arrive on time for work on farm).

This is a stipend position, but we will have to consider your availability to determine the amount allocated to our apprentice(s). You may have the opportunity to live on-site with access to a kitchen and bathroom. Farm produce and some staples will be provided to those living on site and fulfilling minimum work hours.  Produce is available to trade for other products at the end of markets only.

If interested, please download the application above.  We will interview applicants after January 31st, and continue to accept applications until positions are filled. E-mail questions to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
